ELIGIBILITY We hold open auditions for all CTE and FVTC productions. All parts are performed by children or young adults from the corresponding troupe. Children's Theatre of Elgin (CTE) troupe: Children ages 7 (in 2nd grade) through 15 (and not yet completed 9th grade) Fox Valley Theatre Company (FVTC) troupe: Youth ages 15 (and completed 9th grade) through 20 (not yet completed 21st birthday). CTE and FVTC are open to all individuals regardless of race, creed or economic status. REGISTRATION CTE & FVTC registration and audition registration are on-line on our website and are opened as soon as arrangements are confirmed, usually about a month before auditions. Most auditions are on a first-come first-served basis but occasionally we schedule auditions by appointment, so check the show webpage for specific instructions. TIME COMMITMENT If you are cast in a production, you will need to be available for rehearsals Mon-Thu (approximately 6:00-9:00 pm) for about 6 weeks prior to the first performance, every evening during tech week from about 6:00-10:00 pm, & participate in all performances. School show performances occur during the day, so school will be missed 1-2 days for most shows. A maximum of three (3) rehearsals may be missed before being dropped from the cast. What you can expect at auditions: READING: Participants will be asked to read a portion of a script. They should not only demonstrate good reading skills but read with expression. MUSIC: Participants must be prepared to sing a song of their choice. Participants must provide easily readable music for the accompanist. They should also bring additional music for themselves if they need to use it. If student is unable to bring sheet music, he or she will be asked to sing "Happy Birthday." The music (or portion thereof) selected should be 1) clearly marked for the accompanist, 2) selected to show the strength of the vocalist, and 3) must not exceed 1 minute in length. The directors will be looking for enthusiasm, vocal quality, tone, pitch, volume and range. DANCE: Participants will be taught a brief dance sequence and then will be evaluated by choreographers on enthusiasm, learning skills and ability. VIDEOTAPING: Participants may be video-taped during the audition process. Such video recordings may be used to identify and evaluate participants during the casting process and will not be used for any other purpose. FEES There is no audition fee; however, some shows will require fees payment at auditions and money will be returned if student is not cast in the show. Scholarships are available based on financial need and are available at auditions. Hemmens Shows: $75.00 CTE fees due upon being cast in show. ECC shows: CTE/FVTC fees plus ECC tuition are paid before auditioning for & returned in full if student is not cast in the show. Many shows require purchase of a t-shirt, specific shoes, make-up, or other needs. |
