Weekday Educational Matinees


Looking for an educational field trip to enrich your classroom curriculum?
How about giving your students an unforgettable live-theatre experience!

Performances are at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin, Illinois 60120, with plenty of free parking for buses and cars.

All cast members are 2nd-9th graders. Who knows: someone from your class may be in the show! 

Please note that these matinees often sell out, so reserve seats early for your group.

SEUSSICAL JR.

Come immerse yourself in the wonderful, wacky world of Dr. Seuss! This tale follows Horton the Elephant as he encounters the wondrous world of the Whos. Horton must stand up for his new friends, and teaches us all a lesson about understanding and caring for those different from you. School shows: Nov 17 & 18, 2022

JACK

From beanstalks, to adventures with Jill, to jumping over a candlestick, Jack has captivated the imaginations of people for hundreds of years. See his story come to life in a whole new way in this CTE-original show! School shows: April 20 & 21, 2023

Matinee Reservation Information

Read the information in the tabs below before submitting your order. 

If you have questions, want to drop off a payment, or prefer to make a reservation by phone, call 847-214-7152.

Show times: Matinees start at 9:45 a.m. and run between 75 – 90 minutes, depending on the show. 

Tickets: $7 each with one free teacher ticket for every 20 purchased; groups of 10 or more only at this price. No paper tickets issued. Groups check in at the door and seating is determined by our ushers.

Payment: Make checks payable to “Children’s Theatre of Elgin” and send to 1700 Spartan Drive H104, Elgin, IL 60123. DO NOT send payments to Hemmens Cultural Center. Credit card payments are accepted for full amount only plus 3% handling fee when submitting your order. Payment terms: A non-refundable 25% deposit is required after reservation is submitted. Balance is due in full by 30 days prior to performance. Ticket payments are not refundable.

Study Guide: An enrichment guide containing differentiated lesson plans that reach standards in the content areas of Reading, Writing, Language, SEL (Social/Emotional Learning), and Speaking and Listening, which will reach all learners of varying levels, abilities, and learning styles, will be emailed to educators a few weeks before the performance. 

How are school shows different than other performances? 1) There is no intermission or concessions sales, 2) seating is determined by our ushers,  3) sometimes shows are shortened to get out on time.

All Spring 2023 school shows are now sold out. Please email office@cteelgin.com to request a waitlist reservation. Be sure to reserve early for our 2023-2024 season, which will be announced in August!

Field Trips
Tickets ($7 each) - These include student tickets ($7 each) and any extra chaperone or teacher tickets needed. One free ticket for teachers is included with every 20 tickets purchased. These are not included in this total.
One free teacher ticket for every 20 purchased is automatically provided. If you want more than this, please include them in the paid tickets section.
