Shows

Our two troupes present four fabulous large-scale musical theatre productions annually.

Children’s Theatre of Elgin (CTE) performs at the Hemmens Cultural Center with cast members in Grades 2 – 9. CTE shows are primarily based on fairy tales, children’s literature, or shortened Broadway favorites.

Fox Valley Theatre Company (FVTC) is more advanced with cast members in Grade 9 – 20 years old performing musicals at the Elgin Community College Arts Center.

Tickets for all shows are $14 for adults and $12 for children, students, and seniors. Tickets for shows held at Elgin Community College are subject to additional box office fees, which CTE does not control.

2022-2023 Season

The Music Man

It’s a classic for a reason – and ever since the revival opened last year on Broadway, audiences are re-discovering the joy, whimsy, and heart of this beloved musical. It tells the story of Harold Hill, a fly-by-night salesman who makes his living capitalizing on the trust and good hearts of small-town folks. He is all set to do his routine in River City, Iowa – until he meets Marian the Librarian, her brother Winthrop, and all the others he must swindle in order to make his plan work. Slowly, he finds that his heart is being lost to a beautiful, musical, clever librarian, and the town she calls home.

Footloose

Footloose, the musical based off the hit film, is a story about finding where you belong, and helping others in ways you didn’t think possible. Ren McCormack moves from Chicago to the small town of Bomont and right away finds that he does not fit in. But, with courage, heart, and some killer dance moves, Ren finds that you can help people in the most extraordinary ways, just by helping them see a different side of things.

Seussical Jr.

Come immerse yourself in the wonderful, wacky world of Dr. Seuss! “Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!” – Music Theatre International

Jack

Jack and Jill came tumbling down the hill while another Jack scurried down a beanstalk with riches in hand from a giant world above. Yet another Jack was being nimble and quick jumping over candle sticks! What comes next? The story of Jack begins at the end. In the aftermath of chaos, everyone is frozen! But how? Why? We quickly rewind back to the beginning of our story where our three main Jacks are leaving their homes, each off on their own adventure. As they head down uncertain paths, they run into some childhood friends like Bo Peep and Mary (yes, she had a little lamb). Their paths converge and the group makes their way to the town of “Jackson” under the watchful eye of the nefarious Jack Frost who wants to be the one and only Jack. Will the Jacks find what they are looking for? Will their mamas miss them too much? What evil plans does Frost have in store? Watch the journey all our Jacks, along with their friends, take in this original story put on by our Children’s Theatre of Elgin cast of JACK.
