Our two troupes present four fabulous large-scale musical theatre productions annually.
Children’s Theatre of Elgin (CTE) performs at the Hemmens Cultural Center with cast members in Grades 2 – 9. CTE shows are primarily based on fairy tales, children’s literature, or shortened Broadway favorites.
Fox Valley Theatre Company (FVTC) is more advanced with cast members in Grade 7 – 23 years old performing musicals at the Elgin Community College Arts Center.
Tickets for all shows are $16 for adults and $14 for children, students, and seniors. Tickets for shows held at Elgin Community College are subject to additional box office fees, which CTE does not control.

FVTC Presents: American Idiot
(Grades 9 – Age 23)
The two-time Tony Award-winning hit musical Green Day’s American Idiot, based on the Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album, boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. This high-octane show includes every song from Green Day’s album, American Idiot, as well as several songs from its follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown.
Johnny, Tunny and Will struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. When the three disgruntled men flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life, their paths are quickly estranged when Tunny enters the armed forces, Will is called back home to attend to familial responsibilities, and Johnny’s attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship. An energy-fueled rock opera, American Idiot, features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics from Green Day’s groundbreaking album to execute the story line.
American Idiot is a high-concept show with strong social messages and endless creative possibilities. It will surely add an enticing edge to any theatre’s season.

Get Ready for a Hilarious Journey to a Certain School of Magic!
Have you ever wondered what it was like for the other students at that famous school of magic? You know, the ones who weren’t exactly the “chosen one” or super smart, or even a little bit sneaky? Well, Puffs, tells their story!
Meet Wayne Hopkins, a regular kid who suddenly finds out he’s a wizard and is off to a very special school. He’s sorted into the Puffs – the kind, loyal, and maybe a little overlooked house. Over seven wonderfully wacky years, we follow Wayne and his Puff pals, like the quirky Oliver Rivers and the fiercely loyal Megan Jones, as they navigate classes, friendships, and all sorts of hilariously chaotic events that you might recognize from a certain famous book series.
Puffs is a super funny play that looks at the magical world from a brand-new, totally Puff-tastic point of view. Get ready for lots of laughter, silly spells, and a heartwarming story about what it really means to be brave, even if you’re not always in the spotlight.
